400 join simultaneous tree-planting events in Bicol

LIGAO CITY — Some 400 participants from various government agencies and organizations joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol for the nationwide simultaneous tree-planting activity on Tuesday, Sept. 13, in Legazpi City in Albay province.

With the theme “Buhayin ang pangangalaga sa kalikasan” (Revive nature conservation), the activity participants planted 3,095 bamboo, indigenous, and other fruit-bearing trees in San Francisco village.

Joining the activity were personnel from the Department of Interior and Local Government, city administration, Department of Agriculture, Albay provincial government, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Navy, village and youth council officials, said Marlene Muro-Francia, chief of the conservation, and development division of DENR Bicol, in a text to the Inquirer.

In Polangui town, Mayor Adrian Salceda led the tree-planting with 123 participants who were able to plant 200 pili and 200 cacao seedlings at the riverbank in Zone 3 Santicon village.

More than 20,000 seedlings were expected to be planted on Tuesday in different areas regionwide as the simultaneous tree-planting activity end in the afternoon.
