MANILA, Philippines — The Senate adopted a resolution expressing sympathy and condolences over the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

During Monday’s plenary session, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri sponsored Senate Resolution No. 198, a resolution expressing the profound sympathy and sincere condolences of the Senate of the Philippines on the death of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

“The longest-reigning British monarch, she always led with quiet grace and dignity, never seeming to sag under the heavy weight of the crown,” Zubiri said during his sponsorship speech.

“She was born into power, but that power came at a price — a life lived in and owed to the public,” he added.

Zubiri noted that Queen Elizabeth “ushered in a second Golden Age of the monarchy.”

She likewise oversaw the strengthening of their bilateral ties including that of the United Kingdom (UK) and the Philippines, the Senate President added.

Zubiri joined overseas Filipino workers in the UK in mourning the monarch’s demise.

“Once again, let me reiterate the expression of our deepest sympathies and condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth The Great, a leader well-loved and respected, and admired the world over,” he said.

All senators were made co-author of the resolution.

Queen Elizabeth, 96, passed away “peacefully” last Thursday, September 8.
