Family of 5 rescued after boat capsizes off Southern Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines – A family of five persons survived after their motorized boat capsized in the sea off San Ricardo town, Southern Leyte on Saturday morning.

The Philippine Coast Guard in Tacloban City said the family was on their way to Lipata, Surigao del Norte, when their boat capsized due to heavy rain and strong winds at around 7:30 a.m.

The family members were identified as Jocelyn Murillo, 50; her son Edgar, 28, and his common-law wife Belinda, 27; and their children, John Mark, 11, and France, 8.

The victims were rescued by crew members of the M/V Maria Vanessa, which was en route to the port of Liloan, also in Southern Leyte.
