Two members of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles will be donning jerseys of the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons in the upcoming UAAP wars.
Philippine Under-16 point guard Renzar Henry Asilum and NBTC National High School Championships MVP Julius Cadavis have been offered slots to the Fighting Maroons roster by head coach Ricky Dandan.
According to Asilum, he has been offered a slot on the varsity squad, where he hopes to help a Maroons squad that is raring to improve on their 2-12 (win-loss) record in the UAAP last season.
Dandan was in town last weekend to seal the deal on the recruitment of the 5-foot-6 standout guard from Davao.
Asilum and Cadavis have signifed their intention to join the struggling squad.
“Fighting Maroons nata ani. I hope that we made the right decision,” said Asilum in a Twitter message.
With this, Asilum will join a loaded UP backcourt that features the likes of starter Mike Gamboa, sixth man Gelo Montecastro, Mark Lopez and Alvin Padilla.
Asilum first caught the national spotlight when he starred on the RP Under-16 squad of head coach Olsen Racela that finished fourth place in the FIBA Asia Under-16 Championships in Vietnam last year.
In that tournament, he finished with averages of 8.25 points, 0.75 rebounds, 2.13 assists and 0.63 steals in 21 minutes of play.
Cadavis, on the other hand, will be relegated to the farm squad of the Fighting Maroons for the time being, said SHS-AdC athletic director Rico Navarro.
