MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Inday (international name: Muifa) is anticipated to further intensify into severe tropical storm within 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Thursday.
But the state weather bureau noted that despite this, “Inday” is not likely to directly affect the weather condition in the country within the forecast period.
“This tropical cyclone is forecast to reach severe tropical storm category within 24 hours,” Pagasa said in its latest weather update.
Pagasa also said Inday is seen to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Sunday or Monday, generally moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea before turning north-northwestward on Sunday towards the vicinity of Japan’s Ryukyu Islands and the East China Sea.
Currently, the tropical storm is 1,165 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
