LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—At least 431 new COVID-19 cases have been logged in the Ilocos region, according to the latest weekly data released by the regional Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The regional DOH said the average daily number of cases dipped to 62 from Aug. 28 to Sept .3, which was 28.6 lower than the cases reported between Aug. 21 and 27.

Of the new cases, one was tagged as a severe and critical case, the health agency said.

At least four deaths due to the virus were also verified by the health agency last week.

As of Tuesday, the healthcare utilization rate in the region remained at a “safe” level, with 22 percent, or 46 of the 212 intensive care unit (ICU) beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients, already occupied.

The DOH added that 288, or at least 22 percent of the 1,292 non-ICU beds, were also occupied. INQ
