MANILA, Philippines — The son of late ranking New People’s Army (NPA) leader George “Ka Oris” Madlos and his wife have been killed in an alleged skirmish in Bukidnon, the Philippine Army said Monday.
According to the military, Vincent Isagani Madlos, and his wife Angie Polandres Salinas were killed over the weekend at Barangay Kapitan Bayong, Impasug-ong town.
Col. Ted Dumosmog, officer-in-charge of the 403rd Infantry Brigade, said government troops and an undetermined number of NPA rebels figured in a 15-minute gunfight which resulted in the death of Madlos and Salinas on Sunday afternoon.
The military said they recovered two AK47 rifles, other weapons, and personal belongings from the scene.
Dumosmog said that Madlos and Salinas had been subjects of multiple warrants of arrest for alleged crimes committed in different areas of Caraga and Northern Mindanao.
Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) spokesperson Marco Valbuena, however, alleged that Madlos and Salinas were “abducted” and “summarily executed” – contrary to the military’s report that the two were killed during a clash.
Valbuena also urged the family of Madlos and Salinas to urge the Armed Forces of the Philippines to release their bodies.
“We urge the family and friends of the victims to immediately demand the AFP to release the bodies of Vincent and Angie to allow them to properly grieve. They can also avail of the option of having an independent pathologist study their cadavers in order to determine the actual circumstances surrounding their deaths,” the CPP spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.
