No UPCAT for AY 2023-24

Youth group asks: Why aren't students, faculty in UP execs’ talks with gov’t?

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP) has once again suspended the conduct of the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) nationwide for the Academic Year 2023-2024.

In a statement on Friday, UP Office of Admissions Director Francisco De los Reyes cited that the continuing health risks and operational hurdles of in-person exams due to the pandemic are the reasons behind UPCAT’s suspension.

De los Reyes also noted that the decision was unanimously adopted by the University Councils (UC) of the eight constituent universities of the UP System in consideration of the safety and welfare of student applicants and personnel.

Without UPCAT, the university will retain the UC-approved UP College Applications (UPCA), an admission score model for assessing student applicants.

UPCA was first used in 2020, the same year UPCAT was suspended due to health restrictions posed by the pandemic. — Christian Paul Dela Cruz  / INQUIRER.net trainee
