Classes, work in gov’t offices suspended in Batanes as typhoon looms
ITBAYAT, BATANES – Gov. Marilou Cayco on Friday suspended work in government offices in the entire province due to rain and strong winds triggered by Typhoon “Henry” (international name: Hinnamnor).
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over Batanes the Babuyan Group of Islands and Santa Ana, Cagayan.
In an advisory, Cayco said government offices that are involved in the delivery of basic services and emergency response should continue with their operations.
Earlier, the governor also suspended Friday classes in all levels in public and private schools in the province.
As of 5 a.m Friday, Henry was spotted some 395 kilometers (km) east of Itbayat, Batanes and was almost stationary, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
It has a maximum sustained wind of 175 km per hour (kph) and gustiness of 215 kph.
