DUMAGUETE CITY — A newborn baby girl was found inside a sack which was left in a corner of Barangay Looc in this city on Wednesday morning August 29.

The infant was turned over by Barangay Captain Angelita Ragay to the Dumaguete City Health Office.

According to Flor Angel Cornelia, officer-in-charge of the Dumaguete Birthing Center, the girl was crying loudly and caught the attention of some residents.

Concerned citizens then checked the area and eventually found the infant inside a sack.

Cornelia believed the girl was newly born since blood stains were still found in her ears and some parts of the body.

“Its umbilical cord was forcibly cut, possibly using a knife,” said Cornelia.

The child weighed 2,400 grams and was deemed premature.

“Our doctor said it lacks sufficient weight and number of weeks that’s why it was considered a premature baby,” Cornelia said.

Cornelia said the child will be under their custody while authorities are still to conducting an investigation.
