DRUNK SOLDIER ARRESTED
A SOLDIER was arrested for rowdy, drunken conduct in barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City yesterday.
M/Sgt. Godfrey Corsino, 52, of the Central Command (Centcom), tested positive for alcohol use at the Cebu City Medical Center where he was brought after his arrest, said PO1 Epejemio Remulta of the Guadalupe police.
Members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) rushed to V. Rama Avenue after residents complained that Corsino ran amuck about 3 a.m. yesterday.
Corsino did not resist arrest. He was released around about 10 a.m yesterday after paying a P500 fine for violation of a city ordinance on drunkenness.
Lt. Col. Christopher Tampus, Centcom public information officer, said Corsino would face disciplinary action.
“What he did was a major embarassment for the organization,” said Tampus in Cebuano.
Tampus said the soldier violated Article 97 of the Court Martial rules. If found guilty, Corsino coud be suspended and barred from applying for promotion for one to two years. /CORRESPONDENTS GABRIEL C. BONJOC AND CHITO O. ARAGON
WOMAN DEAD IN ROCKING CHAIR
A RETIRED government worker was found dead in her rocking chair at home in barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.
A blood stain was found on the face of Teresita Nengasca, 75, a retired employee of PhilHealth.
The belongings in her room were in disarray.
SPO2 Henry Estoy, investigator, said they will wait of the autopsy results.
Estoy said if robbery was the motive, two boxes of jewelery found in the house would have been taken.

2 MEN YIELD GUNS, SHABU
HANDGUNS and a pack of suspected shabu were recovered from two men from barangay Ermita, Cebu City whom police believed to be involved in several robberies.
Jaime Librado, 42, and John Villegas, 32, were arrested by patrolling policemen in Sanciangko Street past 7 a.m. yesterday.
Police said they found a .38 revolver in Librado’s possession, while Villegas had a .22 revolver and a pack of suspected shabu.
Police said the features of the two men matched a description of holduppers given by robbery victims.
Senior Insp. Eunil Avergonzado, chief of the Carbon police station, said a female victim later identified the two men as the ones who robbed her.
Carbon policemen saw the two men riding a bicycle on Sanciangko Street.
The riders panicked when they saw the patrolling policemen, said Avergonzado.
Police frisked them and noticed bulges in their waists, which turned out to be handguns. /CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
FARM WORKER DIES IN ROAD ACCIDENT
A 51-YEAR-OLD farm caretaker died when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a six-wheeler truck in Bogo City, northern Cebu.
Jose Espinosa of San Remigio town was declared dead when he was taken to the Bogo Provincial Hospital.
The accident happened past 7 p.m. on Tuesday in a road curve of barangay Taytayan which is known to be accident prone.
“Several accidents have already happened in the area,” said Chief Insp. Ceferino A. Tabay, Jr., chief of the Bogo City police.
The motorcycle collided with a Mitsubishi Fuso truck driven by Rosendo Calisa Jr., 31.
Calisa told police the motorcycle was zigzagging before it collided with the truck.
The impact threw Espinosa on the truck’s windshield.

CAB CATCHES FIRE
A TAXI caught fire in front of the South General Hospital in barangay Tuyan, Naga City, southern Cebu.
The Sun Taxi driven by Raymond Ceballos had just arrived at the main entrance of the hospital when smoke started to come out of the car’s hood.
Ceballos and his nurse passenger hurriedly disembarked from the taxi.
Ceballos opened the car’s hood but the engine was already on fire.
Flames were eating up the taxi when firefighters arrived.
