Maguindanao town police chief, pal slain in ambush

COTABATO CITY – Unidentified gunmen killed a police chief of a town in Maguindanao province in an ambush Tuesday morning, according to local radio reports.

Brig. Gen. John Gano Guyguyon, police regional director for the Bangsamoto Autohnomus Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), confirmed that Lt. Samson, police chief of Ampatuan town, Maguindanao, was killed in an ambush that also killed  his driver, Corporal Salipudin Endab.

Samson and his men were in Barangay Kapinpilan, Ampatuan to serve the warrant of arrest against a wanted person when the police car they were riding was waylaid along the barangay dirt road at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30.

Witnesses said the gunmen also took the victims’ rifles and ammunition.

Ampatuan, site of the infamous 2009 Maguindanao massacre, is about 70 kilometers south of here.
