DSWD target: 90,000 beneficiaries on Day 2 of education aid payout

From inside a vehicle parked outside the DSWD central office in Quezon City, an administrative officer receives and sorts documents from the hundreds of education aid applicants who turned up last Saturday.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is targeting to accommodate 90,000 beneficiaries on the second day of the educational cash aid distribution in 200 payout sites nationwide, the agency’s spokesperson Romel Lopez said on Saturday.

“Nasa 90K po target natin maserve today. Yan po ay lahat lahat ng 200 payout sites natin nationwide,” Lopez said.

Lopez added that  the situation in the 200 payout sites nationwide remains on Saaturday morning is “manageable.”

Walk-in transactions are no longer allowed, the DSWD stressed.

The policy is meant to avoid drawing large crowds like those that trooped to the DSWD central and regional offices last Saturday. prompting the agency to seek the assistance of local government units.

The financial assistance for qualified students will be P1,000 for those in the elementary level, P2,000 for those in junior high school, P3,000 for those ion senior high school and P4,000 for college students or those taking vocational courses.

Only three students per family can receive the cash assistance.

Up to 400,000 indigent students are now set to benefit from the educational cash aid  after the budget for the program increased to P1.5 billion pesos.
