2 dead in separate road accidents in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – A cyclist and a motorcycle back-rider died in separate road accidents in Quezon province on Friday, August 26, police reported on Saturday.

Quezon police said that Ronelito Parga, 48, was cycling on the Maharlika Highway when he was hit by a truck driven by Jesus Cabatana in Barangay (village) Talipan in Pagbilao town around 4:40 p.m.

The biker sustained grave injuries and died while being taken to Quezon Medical Center in neighboring Lucena City.

The police report said Cabatana lost control of the truck, loaded with cattle, due to a faulty brake.

The wayward truck also hit a tricycle, car, and a passenger jeepney. All drivers were unharmed.

The police said the concerned parties are open to an amicable settlement.

Meanwhile, in Infanta town, police reported that Mark Benedict Ang was riding his motorcycle when he accidentally hit the rear portion of another motorcycle running ahead, driven by Andrew Brabante, along the national road in Barangay Banugao at around 10:30 p.m.

Brabante’s pillion-rider, Glendo Penamora, was thrown off the vehicle and hit the pavement.

Penamora was taken to Claro M. Recto Hospital in the town center but died along the way.

The police said Brabante and Penamora were under the influence of liquor. Brabante was also found driving without a license and his vehicle did not have a plate number. Both riders were also not wearing the mandatory crash helmets for protection.

Ang, who was unharmed, has a driver’s license and was wearing his helmet, the police said.

Both parties are open to settling the matter outside of court.
