MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare Development-National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) on Thursday cautioned the public against fake news regarding the educational assistance it is giving out to indigent students in light of the resumption of classes.

It reminded the public to be wary of any information that they receive regarding the aid, saying the DSWD-NCR is the only one authorized to give them information on the matter.

“[Ito ay] upang maiwasan ang fake news at pagkalito sa mga proseso,” it said in a statement.

The DSWD-NCR reiterated that the educational aid under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program is for indigent students living in Metro Manila and that walk-ins are strictly prohibited.

It added that public school students are to be given priority and those who are already recipients of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) are not qualified.

The DSWD-NCR further said that any students who are already scholars or receiving incentives from different government agencies or non-government organizations are not eligible to avail of the educational assistance.

Additionally, it urged the public to get information regarding the program from the DSWD-NCR Facebook page. – Lyka Farillon, intern
