Aurora to ban entry of swine, pork products from ASF-hit provinces

MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga—The Aurora provincial government will ban starting on August 30, the entry of swine, pork, and pork products from provinces with African swine fever (ASF) cases.

Gov. Christian Noveras said in an order issued on August 22 that prohibiting the entry of live pigs and pork products into Aurora is necessary for the province’s recovery from the effects of the ASF.

Noveras identified Bulacan, Pampanga, and Tarlac as the provinces with ASF cases. He said the ban would last until September 30.

He said checkpoints would be established at the boundaries of Aurora to inspect all vehicles that might carry live pigs and pork products into the province.

The governor also directed the provincial veterinary office and its municipal counterparts to monitor all hog farms and meat establishments and encouraged the reporting of suspected ASF cases or above-normal mortality in hog farms.

Noveras also ordered hotels, restaurants, and similar establishments to refrain from giving swill feed to hog raisers. He said violation of this order could result in revocation of their permits to operate. INQ
