MANILA, Philippines — Only 1,735 new infections of COVID-19 were registered by the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, with the country’s active cases further decreasing to 31,542.

It should be noted, however, that only 13,937 individuals were tested on Sunday, significantly lower than the usual 20,000 count.

This is also much lower than the average number of cases recorded from August 15 to August 21 at 3,412.

With this, the country’s total caseload is now at 3,860,537 nationwide, with 3,767,569 recoveries and 61,426 deaths, based on the DOH COVID-19 tracker.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila still had the highest number of infections per region in the last two weeks with 14,575 cases, followed by Calabarzon at 8,476, then Central Luzon at 4,881.

On the other hand, Quezon City is still at the top of the list of areas with the most reported cases in the last two weeks at 3,344, followed by Cavite, which recorded 2,929, and Laguna at 2,314.

The tracker also showed that 18,660 individuals were tested for COVID-19 on Monday, reflecting the number of recorded infections on Wednesday.
