SAN ANTONIO, Zambales–At least 60 families or 200 individuals in this province were evacuated on Tuesday (Aug. 23) due to torrential rains brought about by Severe Tropical Storm “Florita,” local disaster officials said.
Most of the displaced families live near a creek at Barangay Binabalian in Candelaria town.
According to the Candelaria Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, 50 families were forced to temporarily stay at the town’s evacuation center due to the rising level of the creek.
In Botolan town, 10 families were rescued by emergency responders due to the threat of landslides and flooding in Barangay Batonlapoc. The displaced villagers were brought to the evacuation site of Barangay Batonlapoc.
Several residents were also evacuated from low-lying areas in Masinloc town due to the floods.
