MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives adjourned its session on Tuesday earlier than expected due to the inclement weather brought by Severe Tropical Storm Florita and the southwest monsoon.
Just right after the House started its session at around 2:00 p.m., the Majority moved to adjourn the session amid moderate to heavy rains over Metro Manila.
“Mr. Speaker, due to inclement weather, I move to adjourn session until tomorrow, August 24, Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m.,” Majority Floor Leader and Zamboanga 2nd District Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe said during the short session presided by Deputy Speaker and Cebu 5th District Rep. Vincent Franco Frasco.
No one objected to the motion.
As of Tuesday noon, several areas in the northern part of Luzon were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 due to Florita, which is expected to cross the northern provinces after making landfall in Isabela.
Florita currently packs maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 150 kph. Metro Manila, where the Batasan Complex is located, is currently not under any tropical cyclone wind signal, but the intensified southwest monsoon has brought moderate to heavy rains over the National Capital Region.
