LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Philippines — Classes at all levels in public and private schools in Camarines Sur province are suspended on Tuesday, Aug. 23, due to Tropical Storm Florita, which is expected to dump heavy rains.
In a memorandum released on Monday night, Camarines Sur Gov. Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte also placed the province under red alert status and directed all local disaster councils to activate their 24/7 Emergency Operation Centers to ensure that appropriate response measures could be undertaken.
Villafuerte said the local officials were tasked with evaluating the need for evacuation of communities in areas that are prone to landslides and flooding.
Earlier on Monday, the Caramoan municipal government suspended classes from pre-school to tertiary levels.
Buhi town Mayor Rey Lacoste also suspended the classes from pre-school to elementary in public and private schools.
Commander Brummel Magalong, chief of Coast Guard Station Camarines Sur, ordered the suspension of sailing of all vessels with 250 gross tonnage and below, including fishing boats and motorized banca, in the eastern seaboards of the province effective 11 a.m. on Monday.
