DOH logs 23,883 COVID-19 cases from August 15 to 21
MANILA, Philippines — Fewer infections of COVID-19 were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) from August 15 to 21 at 23,883, compared to the previous week’s, which was at 28,008.
According to DOH weekly data, it averaged 3,412 — which is 15 percent lower than the week prior at 4,001.
Meanwhile, 101 or 0.44 percent of the total cases were tagged as severe or critical, bringing the active number of severe or critical cases to 811.
An additional 321 deaths were added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll — 109 of which occurred in August, while the rest were backlogs from January 2021 to July 2022.
Non-ICU-bed utilization rate slightly decreased to 30.2 percent from 30.9 percent, while the ICU-bed utilization rate also decreased from 28 percent to 27 percent.
Article continues after this advertisementAs for vaccination progress, fully-vaccinated individuals are now at 72,310,147 (92.59 percent of the target population) after 203,059 additional individuals were vaccinated in the past week.
Article continues after this advertisementOn the other hand, individuals with booster shots now total 17,419,141 after 403,728 additional individuals were inoculated in the same period.
Based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker on its website, as of August 21, there are 35,271 active COVID-19 infections nationwide. This is significantly less than the 40,016 recorded active infections seven days earlier on August 14.
The DOH earlier said that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has already begun to plateau, but warned the public not to be “complacent,” as it may only just be due to the number of tests conducted.
