LIGAO CITY—A cargo vessel capsized on Monday, August 22, while departing from the port of Pio Duran town in Albay province, as Tropical Storm “Florita” spawned heavy rains and huge waves.
Noel Ordoña, town disaster risk reduction management officer, told the Inquirer in a phone interview that the vessel was heading to Claveria town in Masbate when it capsized due to the strong winds.
Emergency responders rescued at least eight crew members.
Ordoña said the ship was carrying petroleum products, sugar, rice, and grocery items. INQ
