ANGELES CITY—All teachers of 53 public schools in this city will be given booster shots against COVID-19 on Tuesday, August 23, to ensure their safety and that of their students this school year.

In a statement, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said the teachers would receive their first or second booster shots at the Angeles Elementary School in Pulungbulu village from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Now that face-to-face classes have resumed, we need to put a priority on the safety of everyone in the classroom setting,” he said.

The mayor said the city would deploy mobile bus clinics to the school for the administration of booster shots, which conforms with the policy of the Department of Education requiring all teaching personnel in in-person classes to be vaccinated fully against COVID-19.

He said the vaccination team would be composed of doctors, nurses, and medical technologists from the City Health Office and personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Dr. Verona Guevarra, city health officer, said they were recommending eligible persons “to take the booster shots to best stay protected from the virus.”

The city government said at least 87,798 residents in this city had received their first booster shot, and 6,232 of these had their second booster shot.

In a social media post, Governor Dennis Pineda reminded all teachers and students to comply strictly with minimum health protocols like wearing face masks, sitting not too close to one another, and frequent hand washing.

He also asked parents to quarantine their children at home if they showed COVID-19 symptoms. INQ
