Mother, son killed in Ormoc City fire

ORMOC CITY, Leyte province — A mother and son were killed in a fire that destroyed at least three houses in Barangay Cogon here around 2:26 a.m. on Sunday.

The fatalities were identified as Belen Sumalinog Mendoza, 62, and his son Lyndon, 36, who reportedly failed to go out of their house during the fire, according to Senior Fire Officer 1 Grace Fatima Ramada.

“They may have been trapped,” she said.

Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.

Damage was pegged at P1.8 million.
