LIGAO CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) and the provincial government of Catanduanes launched the COVID-19 booster shot campaign at the convention center in Virac town on Tuesday, August 16.

The “Pinaslakas” drive aims to encourage the public to have their booster jab for additional protection against the viral disease.

The health sector have recommended that the public have booster vaccination to restore adequate levels of protection because the primary vaccines are insufficient to protect against COVID-19 and its variants.

With the start of “Pinaslakas” campaign, the provincial health office aims to inoculate at least 50 percent of the island province’s population with booster shots by October 8.

“This is for the good welfare of everyone. Let’s cooperate and have additional protection by taking the booster jab,” Governor Joseph Cua said in a post on social media.

The DOH in Bicol hopes that Catanduanes will be the first province in the Bicol region to enact a mask-free policy 100 days following the launch of the “Pinaslakas” campaign.

As of Tuesday, Catanduanes has had 3,420 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started in 2020. Some 3,257 patients have recovered, while 134 died.
