NCR COVID-19 positivity rate decreases further to 16.1% — Octa

MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila decreased further to 16.1 percent as of August 14, said Octa fellow Guido David on Tuesday, but reminded the public that the “wave is not over.”

Last week (August 7), the rate was 17.3 percent but had been trending downward since then, according to David.

Despite the decrease, David warned that the region’s risk is still moderate, adding that “the wave is not yet over.”

“While cases may have already peaked in the NCR, the trends will need to hold, as trends are still reversible,” said David.

“The risk level in the NCR remains moderate,” he added.

Besides the positivity rate, David also said that the one-week growth rate of cases in Metro Manila decreased to -7 percent.

The reproduction number, meanwhile, decreased to 1.13 as of August 12, from 1.19 on August 5.

On the other hand, healthcare utilization is currently at 37 percent, with ICU occupancy for COVID-19 at 32 percent as of August 14.

Before this, COVID-19 infections have steadily increased over the past few months due to the more infectious subvariants of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

Based on the Department of Health’s COVID-19 tracker, the country has a total COVID-19 caseload of 3,835,422, of which 38,982 are active infections, 3,735,362 are recoveries, and 61,078 are deaths.
