MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila decreased for the first time during the recent uptick, said Octa fellow Guido David on Sunday, showing signs that infections may have already peaked.
This new rate as of August 12 was lower compared to the previous week’s 17.5 percent. However, it is still much higher than the World Health Organization’s ideal threshold of 5 percent.
“This is the first time in the current wave the weekly positivity rate decreased, and it gives us optimism that cases in the NCR may have already peaked,” said David in a report posted on Twitter.
The NCR weekly positivity rate decreased to 16.4% as of August 12 from 17.5% as of August 6. COVID-19 infections have been consistently increasing for the past few months due to the more infectious subvariants of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
As of August 13, the positivity rate is still at 18.4 percent nationwide, according to Octa.
Based on the Department of Health’s COVID-19 tracker, the country has a total COVID-19 caseload of 3,827,758, of which 40,324 are active infections, 3,726,442 are recoveries, and 60,992 are deaths.
