DOH tracker: 4,533 more contract COVID-19, active cases near 38,000

The DOH says COVID-19 sickens 4,533 more people in the country and that active cases increase to nearly 38,000 as of August 11, 2022.

MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 infected 4,533 more people in the country as active cases increase to nearly 38,000 as of Thursday, according to the Department of Health’s (DOH) daily tracker.

The DOH said 37,962 people are currently ill with the disease – higher than the 36,035 recorded Wednesday, August 10.

Its tracker also showed that an additional 2,574 patients recovered, pushing total recoveries to 3,719,602, while 27 others were not able to survive COVID-19, raising the death toll to 60,916.

The fresh infections pushed nationwide confirmed coronavirus cases to 3,818,480 since the pandemic hit the Philippines in 2020, the DOH added.

Octa Research fellow Guido David said the fresh cases are above the 4,200 new infections initially projected.

He also said that of the 4,533 new cases, 1,225 were logged in the National Capital Region (NCR) or Metro Manila indicating a drop in its one-week growth rate to one percent.

“While there is a possibility cases are coming to a peak or already peaked in the NCR, we will know next week if the trends hold,” Guido said in a tweet.

He further noted that the nationwide positivity rate stands at 18.3 percent as of August 11.
