LUCENA CITY—A cockpit arena operator escaped an ambush on Wednesday and shot his attacker in Tanauan City in Batangas province.

The Batangas police reported on Thursday, August 11, that Mark Colin Reño, 30, was aboard his Toyota Fortuner in Barangay Darasa around 8:30 p.m. when a motorcycle-riding gunman armed with a caliber .45 pistol shot him but missed his target.

Reño returned fire with his caliber .40 pistol and hit his attacker in the stomach. The gunman fled on foot, leaving behind his firearm.

The police, in a follow-up operation, arrested the gunman identified as Federick Octavio, 23, at CP Reyes Hospital, where he sought treatment for his gunshot wound.

The report said Reño’s firearm has a valid license and authorized to carry his firearm outside of residence for protection.

The suspect was transferred to and confined at Batangas Regional Hospital, where policemen guarded him.

Due to the medical condition of the suspect, the police have yet to interrogate him to establish his motive behind the attempted killing.
