UC students showcase inventions

Students applied their classroom learning to real life situations during the University of Cebu–Computer Engineering (UC-COE) Technological Exhibit 2012 recently.

Eighteen entries of COE students were displayed at UC Main Campus’ activity center, the  venue of the exhibit.

“The students used radio frequency (RF) wireless technology in their project. RF transmits data from a wireless gadget to the other,” said UC instructor and adviser Engineer Myrth Manlangit.

The projects presented the applications of wireless technology in households, business, commerce and agriculture.

The Android Room v1 project of Jovanni Ray Garcia, Michael Mangubat and Jannelle Bautista garnered first place. The entry uses a wireless technology  in switching on and off the appliances. It has a timer that will automatically turn on or off the appliances using the hotspot capable Android Smartphone.

Second place went to the Fishpond Monitoring System of Paolo Nikko Nuñal, Rowel Lara and Joprell Joy Tero. The device detects signs of water changes.  It then alerts the community or fish farm owners for possible fish kill. The gadget has real-time live monitoring of fishpond and its water PH and salinity and temperature. It also  dissolves oxygen level in water.  It automatically logs real-time information through the web and system servers.

The third place went to the team of Jhon Robert Bunhan, Jorupen Patalinghug and Joel Archival for their entry Enhanced Photocopier Machine.

Their prototype is a coin-operated photocopier that accepts short bond paper.

Other projects included the marathon monitoring system, the hotel room consumables inventory system via Android, the wave detecting powerpoint controller, the paperless ticketing system, the enhanced downloading station, the ball maze game via Android, the automated subdivision car barrier system, automated soft ice cream dispenser machine, the apartment monitoring and security system, the enhanced patient monitoring system, the enhanced LTO system and the automated bus fare calculation.
