CEBUANOS will get a glimpse of the Buhisan Dam as the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) and SM City Cebu celebrates the World Water Day Thursday, March 22.
International World Water Day is held March 22 every year to emphasize the importance of freshwater and advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
A miniature display of the Buhisan Dam may be viewed at the third level of the SM City Cebu main mall fronting Max.
The dam was the brainchild of the late Philippine Assembly speaker Sergio Osmeña Sr. in response to the fires and cholera epidemics that regularly visited Cebu.
An engineer named E.J. Halsema was tapped by the Bureau of Public Works to design the dam and its accompanying waterworks.
A Buhisan Dam Centennial photo exhibit will be on display at the second level of SM Northwing (near Our Home).
The exhibit will show the history of Buhisan Dam and the people who made it.
The MCWD has been managing the Buhisan Dam since 1974.
The exhibit will run from March 22 to March 29.
