MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) incident report showed that the helmsman steering the MV Filipinas Cebu had fallen asleep, causing the ship with 260 passengers to run aground.

“According to MV Filipinas Cebu’s master, the helmsman (person who steers the ship) fell asleep while underway, causing the vessel to run aground,” said the PCG on Wednesday.

While the PCG investigation concluded that the ship’s hull had no damages, the coast guard advised the vessel’s master to file a maritime protest.

The Cebu-bound vessel was stranded in the vicinity of Igbon Island and Agho Island in Iloilo on Tuesday.
