Batangas cop slain by motorcycle-riding men

LUCENA CITY—A policeman in Batangas province was shot dead Sunday by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants.


Executive Master Sergeant Romel Panopio was driving his car at Barangay Calicanto in San Juan town at 3:10 p.m. August 7 when unidentified men on a motorcycle repeatedly shot him, a report from the Police Regional Office 4-A said.

The men escaped after the shooting and left their target dead.


Investigators said the perpetrators remained at large. The police were trying to determine the motive behind the killing.

Panopio was assigned to the Batangas provincial police headquarters. INQ
