Midwife snatched by armed men in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—Unidentified armed men snatched a midwife in Patikul town in Sulu on Monday afternoon.

Chief Superintendent Mario Avenido, police chief for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said midwife Rosalyn Kiram was abducted at gunpoint at around 3:30 p.m. in Barangay (village) Liang.

Senior Supt. Antonio Freyra, the provincial police chief, said Kiram and five other health workers were on board their mobile clinic and were on their way back to Jolo town when flagged down by the suspects.

The suspects freed the other health workers an hour later.

Kiram is a 54-year-old widow.
