Rains over Luzon, Visayas will continue as LPA moves over Bulacan

Cloudy skies and moderate to heavy rains over most areas in Luzon and Visayas are expected to continue as the low pressure area (LPA) started to move over towns in Bulacan, the state weather bureau said on Friday afternoon.

MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and moderate to heavy rains over most areas in Luzon and Visayas are expected to continue as the low-pressure area (LPA) started to move over towns in Bulacan, the state weather bureau said on Friday afternoon.

Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the LPA is currently near Doña Remedios Trinidad town in Bulacan.

It is expected to continue moving west between Central and Southern Luzon, and eventually emerge over the West Philippine Sea.

While it is over the country’s landmass, the LPA is not seen to develop into a tropical cyclone. But once it moves near the bodies of water in the West Philippine Sea, there is a high chance that it will intensify and become a tropical depression.

“Wala pa tayong bagyo, low pressure area ang nagdudulot ng mga pag-ulan na nararanasan sa malaking bahagi ng Katimugang Luzon, at hindi natin inaasahan na ang nasabing low pressure area na maging bagyo, habang ito ay bumabaybay dito sa Southern Luzon area,” weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said.

(We still don’t have a cyclone, it is the low-pressure area that brings rains over a considerable part of Southern Luzon, and we do not expect this low-pressure area to intensify as a tropical cyclone while it moves along the Southern Luzon area.)

“Paglabas nito dito sa kalupaan papuntang West Philippine Sea, inaashan natin na may posibilidad na maging bagyo, ngunit patuloy itong kikilos papalayo ng ating bansa,” he added.

(But once it starts leaving the landmass and moving towards the West Philippine Sea, we expect it to intensify into a storm, but it will continue moving away from the country.)

Due to the rains that would continue over the weekend, Pagasa says that temperatures over most areas in Luzon for Saturday would be cold.

Metro Manila would experience between 24 to 29 degrees Celsius, Legazpi and Laoag with 25 to 31 degrees, normally-hot Tuguegarao with 24 to 32 degrees, Baguio with 16 to 23 degrees, Tagaytay with 21 to 27 degrees, and Puerto Princesa with 25 to 30 degrees.

Similar conditions are expected for Visayas and the western side of Mindanao. Cebu and Tacloban are expected to have temperatures of 24 to 30 degrees Celsius, Iloilo with 25 to 31 degrees, Zamboanga with 25 to 30 degrees, while Cagayan de Oro and Davao would be slightly warmer at 23 to 31 degrees and 24 to 31 degrees, respectively.

Pagasa’s three-day forecast shows that for Metro Manila, Baguio, and Cebu, rains may persist on Sunday, but the weather may improve by Monday.

Despite the LPA’s presence, no gale warning has been raised, which means fisherfolk and small boat operators can still navigate the country’s waters.
