LIGAO CITY—The Department of Education (DepEd) recorded 1,014,590 students enrolled as of Thursday, August 4, in the Bicol region as the country prepares for the resumption of in-person classes after two years of distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayflor Marie Jumamil, DepEd Bicol information officer, said the data came from the quick count at 8 a.m. Thursday of enrollees for school year 2022-2023.
Camarines Sur province is leading with 233,032 students already enrolled, followed by Masbate with 145,278. Albay has 136,634, and Sorsogon has 132,298.
Camarines Norte has 92,642 students enrolled and Catanduanes, 56,970.
In Legazpi City, 35,023 are enrolled; Ligao City has 23,677; Tabaco City has 28,760; Naga City has 48,316; Masbate City has 28,095; Sorsogon City has 33,619, and Iriga City has 20,246.
“We are targeting not below 1.8 million enrollees for Bicol region,” Jumamil told the Inquirer in a text message Thursday.
She said enrollment would last until August 22, the first day of classes nationwide.
