LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—At least 651 COVID-19 cases were reported in the Ilocos region between July 24 and July 30, reflecting a 68-percent increase from the number of cases reported the previous week, according to the data from the regional Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The rising case count brought the daily average number of cases to 93, which was 45.3 percent higher than the cases reported between July 17 and July 23, the regional DOH said.

Of the new cases, only one was tagged as a severe and critical case, the DOH said.

The agency verified at least six deaths due to COVID-19 during the same period.

As of July 30, the healthcare utilization rate in the region remained at a “safe” level, with 30 percent, or 67 of the 225 intensive care unit (ICU) beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients, already occupied.

The DOH added that at least 22 percent had also been occupied, or 310 of the 1,424 non-ICU beds. INQ
