MANILA, Philippines — Investigations are underway on the reported deaths of two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Dubai, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday.
DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza said that the department’s Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (OUMWA) had directed the Philippine consulate general to discuss the matter with concerned authorities.
“On the 2 OFWs found dead in Dubai, [please] be informed DFA OUMWA has instructed the Philippine Consulate General to coordinate closely with competent authorities in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) on this case. Investigations are ongoing,” Daza told reporters in a message.
She said those who lost loved ones already know, and help is coming to them.
“Yes, as a matter of procedure DFA informs the [next of kin] first,” Daza replied when asked if the victims’ families have been informed of the OFWs’ demise.
