MANILA, Philippines — China will donate P10 million worth of emergency supplies to areas affected by the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit Luzon, said the Chinese Embassy on Monday.
According to the embassy in an advisory, it will donate the supplies together with the Philippines Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (PCCCII) to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
“Hand in hand, we believe those Filipino people stricken by the earthquake will rise above the difficulties and rebuild their home soon,” it said.
This came after the earthquake hit the province of Abra on Wednesday, affecting several areas in Luzon.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warned that the major earthquake would also cause aftershocks that may occur for several days and even months.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that almost 400,000 individuals had been affected by the earthquake, with over P700 million damage to infrastructure.
The province of Abra has declared a state of calamity.
The South Korean Embassy also earlier announced that it will donate 200,000 US dollars of humanitarian aid to assist affected Filipinos in recovering from the disaster.
