Metro Manila COVID positivity rate jumps to 15%, several others over 20% — Octa

MANILA, Philippines — The positivity rate for COVID-19 in Metro Manila climbed to 15 percent, while 14 other provinces  had a “very high” positivity rate at above 20%, said Octa Research fellow Dr. Guido David on Sunday.

Based on the data posted by David, Metro Manila’s positivity rate rose from 14.2 percent.

But the most notable increase was Albay’s, which has a positivity rate of 25.4 percent on July 29 from 14.2 percent on July 23.

Isabela and Quezon each also recorded a steep rise in positivity rates from 25.7 percent to 36.3 percent, and 16.3 percent to 27.5 percent, respectively.

Other areas that recorded “very high” positivity rates, or rates above 20 percent, included Cagayan, Camarines Sur, Cavite, La Union, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Rizal, Tarlac and Zambales.

The Department of Health (DOH) previously said that while an uptick on COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the past several weeks, the Philippines remained at low-risk classification, as the rise in infections did not translate to a rise in severe or critical cases.

It has, however, placed Metro Manila at moderate risk classification after it recorded a daily moving average of 1,100 cases per day and an average daily attack rate of 7.25 cases per 100,000 population.

The rest of the country’s regions, on the other hand, remain at low risk.
