102 families in 3 Antique towns evacuate as TD Ester dump heavy rain

ILOILO CITY, Philippines —At least 102 families from three towns in Antique were evacuated on Saturday due to non-stop rain brought about by Tropical Depression Ester.

Among those who were moved to evacuation centers were families from Barangays (villages) Catungan I and II in Sibalom town; Piapi I in Hamtic town; and Catungan-Bugarot in the capital town of San Jose, according to the Antique provincial government.

Floods also affected Barangays Catungan III and IV and Igcocok in Sibalom; Calala and Pu-ao in Hamtic; and Bagumbayan, Bariri, Inabasan, Maybato North, San Pedro, and Supa in San Jose.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office advised residents living near mountain slopes and river systems “to take precautionary measures to protect life and property.”

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Antique-Iloilo roads remained passable but commuters commuting via Hamtic should take extra precautions.
