MANILA, Philippines — Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito on Saturday said he hopes new housing chief Jose Acuzar will have a “strong sense of urgency” and will be “unwavering” in his duty.
Ejercito, who is also the principal sponsor of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), said this in a statement as he added that he looks forward to working with DHSUD Secretary Acuzar.
“In this regard, I hope that Secretary Acuzar will be unwavering in fulfilling the mandate of the said department “as the primary national government entity responsible for the management of housing, human settlement, and urban development.”
Ejercito said Acuzar will be playing an important role in making holistic township development — which he said is the “guiding principle of our housing projects and the framework of our housing sector.”
“I expect Secretary Acuzar to work with a strong sense of urgency, given the department’s many responsibilities and the country’s worsening housing backlog,” he added.
Acuzar was appointed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. He took his oath as secretary of the DHSUD on Friday.
Acuzar is the brother-in-law of Paquito Ochoa Jr., who served as executive secretary during the administration of late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
He also worked as a draftsman at the Tondo Foreshore Redevelopment Project in 1975 before becoming a contractor in the 1980s and then establishing New San Jose Builders Inc. (NSJBI).
