MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.0 earthquake shook Ilocos Sur on Saturday afternoon, said the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs).
According to Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake was located 2 kilometers northeast of Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.
Phivolcs also tagged the quake as an aftershock of the magnitude 7.0 quake that hit the province of Abra on Wednesday.
“This is an aftershock of the 27 July 2022 M7.0 Northwestern Luzon Earthquake,” said Phivolcs.
This aftershock was tectonic in origin and was recorded at exactly 12:34 am with a depth of 7 kilometers.
Intensity IV was felt in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, while Intensity III was felt in Bangued, Abra; as well as Pinili and Batac, Ilocos Norte
Meanwhile, instrumental intensities were also recorded in the following areas:
Intensity III – Vigan City and Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
Intensity II – Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte
Phivolcs assured that this earthquake is not expected to cause damage or aftershock.
This aftershock came almost 12 hours after the Phivolcs recorded an aftershock of the same magnitude at 1:33 a.m. in San Isidro, Abra.
As of 7:00 a.m., Phivolcs said it has recorded a total of 1,375 aftershocks caused by the Abra earthquake.
