Magnitude 4.8 earthquake rocks Ilocos Sur town — Phivolcs
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.8 earthquake jolted Magsingal, Ilocos Sur on Friday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The tectonic earthquake struck at 9:58 p.m. It epicenter was traced five kilometers southeast of Magsingal and had a depth of eight kilometers.
It was felt t Intensity IV in Bangued, Abra and Bantay, Ilocos Sur — two areas affected by the Magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Abra last Wednesday.
Instruemental Intensities were also recorded:
- Intensity III: Vigan and Sinait, Ilocos Sur
- Intensity II: Pasuquin and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
Earlier, Phivolcs said that 1,132 aftershocks of the Wednesday temblor have since been recorded since Wednesday, of which 296 were plottable and 28 were strong enough to be felt by people in affected areas.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, six fatalities have so far been reported.
