MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — The Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) seized some P408-million worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) in a buy-bust operation in the City of San Fernando on Thursday.

Interior and Local Government Sec. Benhur Abalos, who personally went to Pampanga’s capital city with acting Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, said a drug suspect was arrested during the operation.

Abalos did not disclose the identity of the suspect, saying an investigation has yet to be conducted.

Danao also refused to disclose the details of the operation.

“It is more of a buy-bust operation and then it further led to this area, kaya po natin natumbok agad ito. Hanggang dun na lang muna ang details. Buy bust operation,” Danao told reporters.

He said most of the large-scale illegal drug activities usually occur in Central Luzon and Calabarzon due to the presence of a large number of end users in the two thickly populated regions.

PNP-DEG operatives found 60 teabags of suspected shabu inside a white van during the operation. Each teabag, which has Chinese characters, contained a kilogram of suspected shabu.

Abalos advised the public to report to authorities any suspicious individuals, places or activities that might be related to the production, storage or trade of illegal drugs.

It said the operation was conducted by the PNP-DEG with anti-drug operatives from the National Capital Region and other police units along Kilometer 62 of the North Luzon Expressway in San Fernando.
