MANILA, Philippines — Several ports under the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) suffered no major structural damage after a magnitude 7 earthquake shook Abra on Wednesday morning, said the agency.
All eight ports — Port Management Offices in Northern Luzon, National Capital Region (NCR) South Harbor, NCR North Harbor Mindoro, Bataan/Aurora, Bicol Palawan, Masbate — also continued with normal operations, despite the strong earthquake, according to the PPA in a statement.
However, PPA said hairline cracks were seen at the Port Operations Building of the Port of Currimao, Ilocos Norte and Passenger Terminal Building in Claveria, Cagayan, under the Port Management Office of Northern Luzon.
The wall plastering on the Port Management Office of the NCR – South Harbor Office also showed minor cracks.
Earlier, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) classified the said earthquake as a “major earthquake.”
It also warned that aftershocks might occur for several days and even last for months.
