2,360 new infections bring active COVID-19 cases in PH to 27,643

MANILA, Philippines —  The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday recorded 2,360 new infections of COVID-19, pushing the country’s total active tally to 27,643.

The new infections also raised the country’s total caseload to 3,755,403 nationwide, with 3,667,084 recoveries and 60,694 deaths, based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker on its website.

These new cases were slightly lower than the number of infections recorded on Monday at 2,778 and the average daily cases recorded from July 18 to 24 at 2,791.

The tracker showed that the National Capital Region continued to have the highest number of infections per region in the last two weeks with 12,782 cases, followed by Calabarzon by a significant margin at 8,165, then Central Luzon with another huge gap at 3,671.

On the other hand, Quezon City topped the list of areas with the most reported cases in the last two weeks at 2,806, Cavite at 2,702, and Laguna with 2,071.

Meanwhile, the tracker also showed that only 20,896 individuals were recorded to have been tested for COVID-19 on Monday, reflecting the recorded infections on Wednesday.

Earlier, the DOH launched its campaign to boost the administration of booster vaccines against COVID-19 to the eligible population to reduce the further spread of the virus.

Despite the increasing cases, however, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had already vowed that there would no longer be lockdown restrictions implemented in the country.
