Healthcare utilization rate, ICU occupancy in Metro Manila increases – OCTA Research

MANILA, Philippines —The healthcare utilization rate (HCUR) and intensive care unit (ICU) bed utilization increased in Metro Manila compared to the previous week, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said on Tuesday.

Two other areas also recorded HCUR above 50 percent, while one other area had an ICU-bed utilization above 50 percent.

David said that based on the latest COVID-19 data, Metro Manila’s HCUR increased from 30.7 to 31.7, while ICU bed utilization also increased from 23 percent to 27.3

Meanwhile, Bohol and Iloilo province continued to have HCUR above 50 percent at 57.7 percent and 52.4 percent, respectively.

Lucena City in Quezon, on the other hand, recorded an ICU bed utilization rate of 60 percent.

Department of Health officer-in-charge Ma. Rosario Vergeire also previously warned of an increase in hospitalizations by the end of August or early September if the “wall of immunity” continues to wane.

The DOH also earlier noted an upward trend in daily COVID-19 cases, which could rise to over 19,000 cases by end-August.
