MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos on Monday prodded her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to get angry at corrupt government officials.

Imee was asked in an interview at the Senate about her advice to her brother who is set to deliver his first State of the Nation Address (Sona) later Monday, and she replied: “Sana mahuli na niya at kasuhan lahat ng mga nasa gobyerno na kilalang-kilalang kurap sa BOC (Bureau of Customs), sa BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue), at sa iba’t iba pang mga ahensya.”

“Sana magalit na siya at tunay na sabihin na dadamputin na ‘yung mga kriminal at mga nangangalakal pa rin ng droga,” she added.

(I hope he gets angry and goes after criminals and those who are still selling  drugs.)

Imee even stressed that Bongbong must become angry now and make sure to go after erring government officials and employees especially since many Filipinos bear the brunt of increasing prices of commodities.

“‘Di nagagalit ‘yun. Pero palagay ko panahon nang magalit kasi hindi na tama at masyado nang mabigat ang dinaranas ng ating mga mamamayan,” she also said during the interview prior to the opening of the  first session of the 19th Congress in the Senate.

(He does not get angry. But I think it is time to get angry because it is not right and the burden of Filipinos is heavy.)

“Ang taas-taas ng presyo ng pagkain. May kasalanan diyan ang mga importer, kartel, lahat ng sindikato sa DA (Department of Agriculture). Pwede ba? Tapusin na natin ‘yan. ‘Yung sa gasolina, ‘yung mga hindi nagbabayad ng excise tax na malalaki na korporasyon, hulihin ninyo ‘yan,” she further said.

(Food prices are high. It is the fault of importers, cartels, and syndicates. Can we finish this? Big corporations who do not pay excise taxes, arrest them.)

Bongbong concurrently sits as the DA Secretary.
