LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—Mayor Hermenegildo “Dong” Gualberto of the capital city of San Fernando in La Union province had tested positive for COVID-19, the city government said on Sunday, July 24.
In a statement on Facebook, the city government said the mayor isolated himself after experiencing mild symptoms.
The city government had asked all those possibly exposed to the mayor to report to the city health office if they experienced any COVID-19 symptoms.
In January, Gualberto also tested positive for COVID-19.
The city government said Gualberto would continue working in isolation and that city hall operations would be unhampered.
The city government reminded residents that the threat of COVID-19 persisted, asking them to observe health protocols and be vaccinated against the virus. INQ
